In today’s session, we began with a few engaging activities to revisit the first four Arabic letters we learned yesterday. The kids enjoyed the review, and it helped reinforce their recognition and understanding. We followed this with a quick memory check on the du‘aa for increasing in knowledge, ensuring the students retained what they had memorized earlier.
Next, we moved into an introductory lesson on the Five Pillars of Islam. It was wonderful to see that the kids already knew bits and pieces about them—even if they didn’t know the names or that they were officially called the “Pillars of Islam.” We carried out some simple activities to help cement the five pillars in their memory.
We then began laying the foundation for the first pillar of Islam: Shahadah. Before we eventually memorize the First and Second Kalima, it is important to understand who Allah is and who the Prophet ﷺ is, and so this session focused on building that essential groundwork. To support this, we explored who Allah is through an interactive question-and-answer discussion, followed by related activities to deepen understanding.
For reference, the deck we used in this session is shared here:
We had an ambitious plan to also learn Ta‘awwudh and Tasmiyah, but time didn’t allow for it today. We’ve saved that for a later session this year, inshaAllah.
It was a lively and meaningful class with lots of participation and curiosity from the kids.
